BUSY BUSY BUSY

Hi Brittle Friends!!

We have not forgot about you!! I know everyone looks forward to our blog posts, only because we are always keeping you up to date with the latest news and we will keep you laughing with our silly stories!!

Let us fill you in on what has been going on with us lately!
First of all, we have been swamped with Christmas orders!! We are asking that all Christmas orders be turned in by December 15th in order to assure delivery by the 25th! If you have any questions or special needs for your order please send us an email at orders@butlersbrittle.com or you can also call us at either of these numbers: 830-534-8245 or 830-477-6139. Remember that if you are in the San Antonio/Floresville area that we will deliver as well! That helps with all those unwanted shipping costs!
Secondly, we have been attending shows around the San Antonio area! We were in Boerne November 13th and 14th, and had a great turn out! This is a picture of our booth :)

We then turned around and had another show at the Milam Building in downtown San Antonio on November 19th! That was a very busy week for us! Not to mention we also have to keep our shop in Fredericksburg stocked, so needless to say we have been at the factory A LOT! This weekend we will be in Castroville, TX at their Old Fashioned Christmas Market. We are looking forward to the turn out since the weather is perfect today and will be tomorrow! We should have a high of 80 degrees tomorrow! That's Texas weather for you! Next weekend on December 11th and 12th we will be at the Boerne Market Days again. The expected attendance should be around 6,000 people or so! We are so excited to go! We will then end the year with one more show for December at the Milam Building Downtown on December 15th!
And last but not least, I wanted to bring everyone's attention to how much brittle we have made so far for this brittle season. We are at about 1,200 lbs. so far! That is not including our next two shows and all of our Christmas orders!
We will try to keep you updated and let you know what is going on with us, but as you can see we are busy busy busy!
Please remember to have your Christmas orders in by December 15th!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What a weekend!

Wow, what a busy, busy weekend at the brittle factory.  On Saturday the employees (Tisha, Lauren and Kirsten) did a complete inventory and reorganization of the supply warehouse.  Man, was that ever a bunch of work!  But it is so much better now that we can see all the cute items we have to put in our gift baskets and other items for sale.  You really do want to place an order with us; we promise that you won’t be disappointed.  We even have our own Butler’s Brittle Beverage that we will be putting in baskets and mugs so be on the watch for that.

On Sunday the factory was in full swing…as we made about 130 pounds of brittle.  The weather was absolutely perfect and we were turning out brittle that is nothing short of LUSCIOUS!  The factory will be open all this week as we prepare for the Boerne Market Days and also all of our other orders that we have.  Sooooo….be sure to stop by our facebook page, we are running another contest and I know you will want to enter for YOUR chance to win some of our delicious brittle and other goodies.  Till next time….

ButlersBrittle.com

So sorry to have been gone for so long….we had a little shopping extravaganza that we went on and while there we “checked out” some of our competition.  Oh my…we don’t have anything to worry about!! LOL

If you haven’t had a chance, check out our website at butlersbrittle.com.  There you will find the newest spokesperson for Butler’s Brittle, almost 3 year old Noah.  He is the great-nephew of the CEO (Tisha) and she is his “YaYa”.  Isn’t he such a little doll?  His “photo shoot” was fun to do, he had just come back from taking his Halloween pictures and he was very excited to show YaYa his “Thomas the Train” pictures.  He did such an awesome job posing for his mom (who is a wonderful photographer) and he was very proud that he was helping his YaYa!

The factory will be in full swing this weekend, preparing for the Boerne Market Days next weekend. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and say hi, and maybe pick up a bag or 2 of brittle. We will have both Thanksgiving and Christmas items available.  Talk to you soon and here’s to a happy hump day!

Hello all my brittle friends….bet you didn’t know there are only 65 days left in 2010.  Isn’t that just crazy?  Oh how time really does fly, especially when you are making and filing brittle orders!  Kudos to all of our brittle fans in Fredericksburg, Texas who bought 62 pounds of brittle in 8 days!! Whoo Hooo!!!!

I also wanted to let you know, just in case you might not have realized it…..but brittle isn’t just for the Holidays anymore!!! That’s right, brittle is awesome any time of the day, any day of the week, any week of the month…I think you get it!!  I’m sure a lot of you have said “I think I’ll order some of that for Christmas gifts”, or “That will make a great treat for the Holidays”.  Well I am here to tell you that you need to order YOURSELF some right now!  The time is now to get some of that LUSCIOUS brittle and see for yourself what all the rave is about. We even received a phone call from someone who used to make it all the time and she said “I will be ordering 4-5 gallons at a time; it’s the best brittle we’ve ever had.  Now there, that ought to convince you that Butler’s Brittle really is the best brittle this side of…..well anywhere!

Brittle Kick Off Sale!

Hello brittle fans!!! Yes, we are still here, just have been way too busy with our FTJ’s, so haven’t had a chance to hop on the blog and keep you updated.  I’ve also been busy preparing for a retreat that I am a team member on, so you won’t get any other updates this week since we are leaving tomorrow.

Let me start with our donation to a
United Way
fundraiser that we made.  Our ½ gallon jar brought $40.00, which wasn’t too bad for a small office.  I was under the impression that it was a bigger auction, but whatever it brings, that is great.

We also had a gallon jar in a church auction on Sunday, and I just spoke to the gentleman who bought it to donate, and he said that it brought $225.00.  Awesome!!!

We are very proud of BB for helping to make money for these great charities.

Our “Brittle Season Kick Off Sale” on Friday was a huge success.  We had never done this sale before so I was a little skeptical, but as usual, we sold out in 2 hours!  Of course we could always make and sale more, but I get a little bit worried with a new venture.

We are gearing up for the holiday sales.  We will be at the Boerne Market Days the weekend of November 13 & 14 with both Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts.  If you are in the local area, be sure to stop by and visit, or better yet, buy some!!  We promise it will be the best you’ve ever had.

Sorry this is so short; we will get back on our regular schedule next week.

Brittle Beverages Coming Soon!

We have been busily working to prepare for the upcoming holidays! We want our brittle customers to have a wide variety of gift items to choose from this year. We started brainstorming and throwing ideas around on what to put in the gift baskets for Christmas, and EUREKA! Tisha came up with a great idea! What about a brittle beverage to go with our LUSCIOUS brittle! The baskets this year can have ornaments, mugs, and a hot brittle beverage all wrapped up for your loved ones! You can let us know what you're looking for and we will be happy to take care of it for you . We will also be selling our brittle beverage with a mug, if you would like something like that as well. We are still working on the packaging, so pictures will be up as soon as we have everything put together.

Butlers’ Brittle is very proud to have been asked to donate an item for a live auction which will benefit the
United Way
.  Hopefully it will bring lots of money.  We will let you know how much it brings in a few days, the auction is tomorrow.

I know by now you are all wondering where the heck our CEO Tisha IS today? Why is she not writing for the blog? Well the truth is, she has been busy with her FTJ (full time job)  :|)  I am sure she will be back tomorrow! Actually, we would like to get rid of our FTJ’s soon, so get your brittle orders in today!  Hurry, don’t delay!!

Have a great afternoon!!

Happy Peanut Festival!

Good afternoon all our brittle fans….we will be back in the brittle factory this weekend!!  We have an order for a gallon of our LUSCIOUS peanut brittle for a church auction.  Boy, whoever buys that is going to be VERY lucky.  I’m told that brittle has brought as much as $400-$500 dollars in the past, so hopefully ours will make the church lots of money.

We are also having a sale on Friday and will be making both peanut and pecan brittle to sell. Also, our sales in Fredericksburg are going so well after the first week that we need to make more for the shop there. Soooooo, we will be very busy this weekend trying to get everything made.

We are patiently anticipating the delivery of some very cute Christmas decorations that we ordered for our jars and baskets.  Hopefully they will be in sometimes next week.  We will start posting pictures of some of our decorations in the near future, so be on the look out.  Trust me, you will love it all!

Since we are from Floresville, the peanut capital of Texas, and maybe even the world, our annual Peanut Festival is this weekend.  The nut king and queen were crowned last night and the big parade will be tomorrow morning.  Happy Peanut Festival to all!!!!

New Website!

WHOOOOOHOOOOOO – Butler’s Brittle has its very own website!!  That’s right, thanks to the very technical savvy Office Manager Lauren; we now have a website where you can go to make your purchases of the LUSCIOUS Butler’s Brittle.  Please go to http://www.butlersbrittle.com/ and see what we have to offer. Lauren is so awesome; I don’t know what I’d do without her.  She is the technical genius at Butler’s Brittle along with being my right hand girl.  She keeps me on track when my head starts spinning and I feel like I’m out of control.  The only bad thing about her is that she has not been able to keep our security company, Rose Security, in line! (inside joke)

And if we haven’t announced it before, Butler’s Brittle is now able to take credit cards.  We take the usual, MC, Visa, American Express and Discover cards along with paypal.

Our brittle was recently reviewed on the blog Armywifelife.  If you’re interested, take a look at

Thanks for checking us out and here’s to a very happy Wednesday!

New Cook :)

Well, well, we have a new cook at Butler’s Brittle.  I finally decided to let someone else besides me learn the “secret” to cooking LUSCIOUS brittle….and it’s no other than the Office Manager Lauren.  We had to make some yesterday evening to ship to Arkansas and we also had an order for a birthday basket.  Check out the picture below and let us know what you think.  I hope the 82 year old recipient will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!  But back to Lauren and her cooking experience, I must say she is a fast learner.  The first stage or the “threading stage” is the hardest to learn, because you think it’s ready and then when you do the “test” it’s not quite there, but she is doing very well.  I just might have to let her cook a few pots on her own and see how she ends up.  I can tell you that when the pots are being poured, she immediately knows if they are a good color and how they will turn out.  What a keen eye she has!!!  Our packaging manager Kirsten was a little bit messy yesterday, and we had some extra clean up to do, and since we are without our maintenance manager Brent for a while, it was harder than normal.  Hopefully we will have Brent back for our big sale on the 15th and of course we will have to have him when we prepare for Canton.  That’s all we have to report for now.  Enjoy the beautiful weather.

Hugs and Kisses!

New Christmas Ornaments

Ssshhhh….It’s a secret.  Don’t let the CFO know, but we ordered some really cute Christmas ornaments to go in our baskets and on our jars.  I promise they are really going to add a special touch to them; you will want to get your order in early before we run out!
When they come in and he questions why we are still shopping since we were supposed to be on restriction, we’ll just say that we ordered them “a long time ago” and he’ll never know the difference!  You know that saying, what a man doesn’t know won’t hurt him! LOL

Vice-President Brent (my son away at college) is coming home for the first time this semester and he is sad that we don’t have any brittle to make.  He said he would have loved to stay up with us until midnight this past Monday, washing pots and doing all the maintenance jobs.  Oh well, maybe next time!!

BUT WAIT, if you get your order in tomorrow for the October special, we will make it this weekend and he will get to help.  Please don’t disappoint Brent…get your order in today!!

You read that correctly, I said FREE!  I checked with the CFO to see if it would be okay to run this great special and he thought it would be a great thing to do, with the way the economy and things are now days.  Sooooo…don’t miss out on this great special.  There are several ways you can order….you can email us at butlersbrittle@yahoo.com, you can leave a comment with your email on the blog and we will get back with you, or you can contact us through facebook.  You can even go to our etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/butlersbrittle.  If you are local in the San Antonio/Floresville area, you can let us know and we will make a custom listing for you so you won’t have to pay shipping.

Luscious?

Can you say luscious?  That’s the word I used to describe our brittle last night about 10 pm, as I was deliriously stirring pots.  Since we live by our motto, always made fresh, one pot at a time, we needed to fill some orders for Kentucky and Fredericksburg.  We ended up making about 55 lbs, which isn’t very much, but with only 2 of us in the factory for most of the evening, it took a little bit longer than necessary.  The weather was great though, a nice dry, crisp fall evening, absolutely perfect for brittle making.

We also had visitors to the factory, and we had to have security check to make sure they were there to actually see the factory, and not steal our secret recipes, but we were happy to have them!!!  By the way, if you are ever in our area, give us a call and we will be happy to give you a tour, heck we don’t even charge!!!  And you just might get a sample!!

Hope to see you soon or we would love to fill an order for you!

Fabric Fetish

Well we’ve got some good news….since the CFO (my fiancée) is working this week, which means he isn’t around to keep a check on the shopping, we made a trip to Hancock Fabrics to check our their 53% off Christmas fabric!!!  I (CEO Tisha) have a fabric fetish!!  How I love to find new and cute fabrics for our jars and decorating.  I had such a hard time picking them out, put I stuck to the 12 new ones shown in the pictures below.  Heck, I could have bought about 20 more, but I called the office manager (Lauren) and she said we have enough fabric to last the next 3 years!!!  Anyways, we hope you like them, or some of the other ones we’ve already shown and are ready to place your orders.

Don’t forget that we would be very happy to make you a customized jar or basket for fall or Thanksgiving.  (Really cute fabric and cellophane)  It would be a great gift to give your host or hostess if you are going someplace for the holiday.  And of course, we would be most jubilant to make your Christmas gift giving easier with bags, jars, mugs, and baskets, really anything you can think of!  Thanks for reading along with us and happy autumn.  Well, at least that’s what the calendar says, here is South Texas, it’s a very crisp and cool 90 degrees with a humidity level of 71.  Now that’s chilly!!

Butler's Brittle is going places!!!

One of our favorite places to shop is Canton, TX. We love all the booths, and the atmosphere! We have recently decided it would be a great place to sell our brittle! We sent our application off, and now we are just waiting with bated breath to hear if they will have room for us this year. We would be going for the December Market which is Decemer 3rd-5th. We are so anxious to hear back! We have put together some cute holiday items that we would feature at this show, and for our local sales.  Once we get news that we will be going to Canton we will be sure to let you know! So stay tuned to our Facebook and Blog!

Monday, September 20, 2010

We are always very thankful to God when we receive much needed rain, but Butler’s Brittle needs the rain to stop for a little while!  When it is hot and rainy, like it has been here in South Texas for the past 10 days, it is very hard to make brittle.  The brittle does not “dry” like it should and it gets sticky to the touch.  Since we here at Butler’s Brittle want our customers to get the freshest and best brittle possible, we won’t make it in these conditions.  If you have placed an order or have won a contest and are waiting on your brittle, please be patient with us, we will get it to you as soon as possible!

Now, in the winter when it is cold and raining, that’s another story.  The cold actually helps to “dry” the brittle and it still turns out great.  We have made many a hundred pounds of brittle in cold and wet weather. So, if we could pick our perfect weather, we either want sunshine and 60 degree weather, which we won’t have a for a while, or sunshine and 90 degree weather, but never rain and 90 degrees!!!  Hurry up fall, we’re waiting on you!

Speaking of hundreds of pounds of brittle, our estimate for Butler’s Brittle for the past year is about 3,000 pounds!  Wow, now that’s a lot of brittle, being made one pot at a time. And yes, you can count on us to always make it fresh, one pot at a time! Hope you all have a happy and blessed week.

We're on shopping restriction!!

Well, Lauren (office manager) and I (CEO) went shopping yesterday at Michael’s again because “they have 50% off coupons and we might need something for the brittle company!”  Of course we found all kinds of cute things to buy including some really nice fall baskets and Christmas ribbons and tins.  Heck, everything was already 40-50% off so we had to “find” something to use our coupons on!  We reported back to the CFO (my fiancé Kyle) when we got back, and we are now restricted from Michael’s, Hobby Lobby and Joann’s for the rest of the month!  Oh well, we can always find something good to buy online!  Here’s to happy shopping for Butler’s Brittle!

SPOOKALICIOUS SAMPLER BOXES!!

We have told you over and over how excited we are for the Spookalicious Sampler boxes from our good friends over at Sampler Village. I have some pictures to share with you that will keep you wanting more! If this does not persuade you to buy a box, I don't know what will! You can see that our brittle is in the pictures, which should be an even greater reason to purchase one of these amazing boxes!

Let me remind you how you can purchase your very own! Head on over to http://www.samplervillage.com/ on September 21st at 8 AM EST. You can purchase your box from their website, and also see what vendors are participating in the following months! Here are the pictures!

Our order came in!!

We have been so busy trying to brainstorm ways to spread the word about the brittle! We finally got it! CAR MAGNETS! What a better way to spread the word than actually going out to the streets! We also ordered a large banner for our next show we are going to be at! We were so pleased with our purchase we just had to share!

We also took a few pictures of some of the newer items we will be selling this season! Please let us know what you think!! We LOVE your thoughts!!

Here is our new banner with the car magnets!
Here is the banner by itself!
These are two new items we have. We will have cute Christmas mugs
and baskets this year!
Here are just a few of our many mugs with some brittle in them
ready to be decorated!

Our Fredricksburg, TX Shop

Butler’s brittle is in full swing.  We are anticipating the re-opening of the shop in Fredericksubrg, Texas where we sell a very large amount every month.  We will start supplying them in another 10 days or so.  This shop is a large supplier of various kinds of pecans; they come in pretty much in kind you are looking for from shelled to candied to whole. I am told by the shop owner that he has customers that come by just to purchase our brittle!  This is also where we buy our fresh, Texas grown pecans from.  They are from pecan orchards in San Saba and Poth, Texas, a little town about 15 minutes from us!!

We have been working on our fabric cutouts and decorations for our Christmas items.  If you haven’t seen our gift baskets or decorated jars, stop by our etsy shop and take a look. www.etsy.com/shop/butlersbrittle   We have about 25 different Christmas fabrics to choose from for the jars, and 8 or 10 different cellophanes to pick from for the baskets. We love to do custom orders; it’s what we’re best at!!

Our Holiday Weekend....

The brittle factory was open this weekend, working on orders and items that we are giving away. One of the giveaways was a very nice fall basket of peanut and pecan brittle that went into a church auction. By the way, it brought $150.00!! Below is a picture for you to check out.

Things have changed at the brittle factory, but they are all for the better. We are now using sealable bags, and we bought a special sealer for to do this. It took a little bit to get used to it, but we have it down pat now!! Lauren and Kirsten are the official sealers, they told me to stay away, and continue cooking!!

Our labels have changed too, we wanted a new look and came up with the back to back “B” as our main focus. We love it -- what do you think?

Butler’s Brittle will be in the next Sampler’s Village box that you can purchase. We will be making our brittle for this on Sunday and shipping it out on Monday. Please check out this website if you are interested in ordering one. They are awesome! http://www.samplervillage.com/ .

You also still have a day to enter over at the Sampler Village Blog, to win a brittle basket! You can also check that out at http://www.samplervillage.blogspot.com/ !

How Pecan Brittle was born......

Making brittle started out as a necessity after I became a single mother of 2 young kids. Now it has become our passion and our pride. We originally started making only peanut, but about 5 years ago someone asked if we could make pecan. We thought about it and said “what the heck” and gave it a try. We now have our “die hard” peanut fans and our “die hard” pecan fans. Personally, I’m addicted to both! Since we have grown the business so much over the past 10 years, we have enlisted the help our dear and wonderful friends Lauren and Joan. Lauren is the genius behind all of our social networking and Joan will soon be packaging and decorating. We all have a great time together, so it doesn’t seem so much like work!

We enjoy going to the different craft stores to find new and exciting ways to package and decorate our brittle. Be on the lookout for new and exciting stuff this year!

MYTH BUSTERS!!!

For all of you new to the “brittle business”, contrary to belief, brittle is cooked in a pot on the stove, not baked in the oven on cookie sheets! Once it has been cooked to perfection, it is spread out on foil until it is cooled and ready for packaging. We thought we would go ahead and dispel the myth that brittle is baked!

Gas is the cooking method of choice; it keeps the candy at a more even tempature. Each "pot" is checked for quality control.  If a pot is not the right color, it gets tossed.  If it does not dry and harden to the right consistency, it gets tossed.  As we always try to make sure that each piece is loaded with peanuts or pecans, the ends that are only the brittle part get tossed into a scrap bag and passed around to friends and family.

Hey!!!! If you're one of those who only like the brittle pot, let us know and we can sell you a really, really big bag for really, really cheap!

For those of you who have said to yourself, "man I really love peanut brittle but I'm not so sure about pecan brittle", well think again.  It is absolutely delicious.  The pecans are spread throughout the brittle, giving it a very sweet taste.  Add in the roasted pecans and you can't lose.  You really need to try it, you'll be addicted!

A couple years ago we wanted to offer some different kinds of packaging for our brittle, so we thought gift baskets would be a great gift for any occasion! Well, we were right! Please keep in mind if you are needing a different color or have another occasion we can accomodate whatever you need. Just send us a quick email and we will get back to you!!
